Early check-in policy — when to allow, when to charge
Front DeskUpdated 5 Apr 2026244 viewsAuthor: Amanda ChenEarly check-in decision tree
When to allow free early check-in
- The boutique unit is available AND confirmed clean by housekeeping
- Guest is checking in any time after 9am (subject to availability)
- No additional charge applies — this is Meridian policy
When NOT to allow early check-in
- Unit has not been cleared by housekeeping
- Guest is requesting check-in before 8am without prior arrangement
- All boutiques are occupied
Process steps
- Check system for unit availability
- Call/message housekeeping to confirm unit is clean and ready
- Process check-in in the system — log the early check-in timestamp
- Note in the guest record that early check-in was granted
- Use as upsell opportunity: mention breakfast ($10) or late checkout ($15)
VIP Guests
For guests flagged as VIP in the system, early check-in should always be accommodated if any unit is available — even if their reserved unit is not yet ready, offer an upgrade or equivalent unit.
What to log
Always log early check-ins in the system with:
- Boutique number
- Actual check-in time
- Whether unit was pre-confirmed by housekeeping
This data is used by management to track early check-in demand patterns.
